ANACARDIUM OCCIDENTALEThe pericarp of the fruit contains the active principle, cardol, which is an irritant.

Signs and symptoms – Contact dermatitis with redness and urticaria like lesions. In workers regular contact may cause chronic dermatitis.

Treatment – Wash the part with soap water. Give symptomatic relief.

Medicolegal aspects – Usually non-criminal contact by workers who collect and process the fruits for extraction of the nuts.
