Male ferns are poisonous which contain filicin, an oleoresin active principle.
Signs and symptoms – Pain in the abdomen, vomiting, diarrhoea, defective vision, delirium, circulatory collapse, coma and death.
Treatment – Symptomatic.

Medicolegal aspects – Accidental poisoning (food poisoning).
