Absorbed through G. I. tract, respiratory tract or skin.
Sign and symptoms – Burning sensation of mouth and throat, difficulty in swallowing, pain in abdomen, diarrhoea.
Fatal dose – 4 – 5 gms.
Chronic poisoning may have neurogenic, teratogenic effects, damage to liver, kidneys, adrenal glands degenerative changes in G.I. tract, pancreas, brain, heart, muscles. Surface contact may cause skin lesion; inhalation causes nasal bleeding, contamination of eye may cause keratitis.
For ingested poison –
(a) Activated charcoal
(b) Stomach wash
(c) Saline purgative
Rest (Acute and Chronic) symptomatic.
